Abstract

Baseball – is a team sports game with a baseball and bat. In contests it is involving two teams of nine (sometimes ten) players each. Baseball is popular in the U.S., Cuba, Japan, China and South Korea. In the U.S., Japan, the Czech Republic and other countries, it is distributed as softball – a simplified version of baseball – a game that can be done indoors and in small fields. At this moment in baseball is played in more than 120 countries.
According to Negro League Baseball Players Association (2011), the mission statement of the Negro League Baseball Players, “The Negro League Baseball Players Association (NLBPA) exists to honor and celebrate the significant contribution of Negro Leagues players to baseball and American history, to collect and preserve that history, to educate others so that Negro League players may be a source of pride and inspiration for generations to come, and to support and promote the general and financial well being of former Negro Leagues players.” Today, it is important to regain interest in baseball and promoting it among African- Americans.

 
Getting Black America back to baseball

Baseball has its history. Aside from the U.S., Mexico and Canada in North America, baseball is currently played in the Caribbean: Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Curacao, also in Central America: Nicaragua, Panama and Guatemala, and South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, and in Asia (Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan). As well, arouses little interest in Europe, highlighting Holland (winner in 20 of the 30 European Championship appearances, and 7 times runner-up), Italy (8 and 15) and Spain (1, 1 and 12 bronzes).
It is essential to note that the winning teams of each winter league in Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic annually participate in the Caribbean Series. Since 1949, the Dominican Republic was the country with the most winning teams, with eighteen titles, then follow the team with fourteen Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Mexico seven six.
The nation has enjoyed more success at the national team- it has been Cuba, winner of many official events organized by the International Federation of Baseball. Japan was the champion of this tournament organized by the MLB lead organization Major League Baseball, and with the participation of major league stars as members of many selections. Interestingly, the Japanese team only had two major leaguers. In the Final of this event, won in dramatic game (10-6) players from Cuba, the other finalist in the tournament, no major league professional ranks.
