Sociological Perspective

The video focuses on the debate over the higher education in the US and Canada. The current trend to receive higher education in Canada instead of the US has become a perfect alternative for many Americans, who want to save their money. In this regard, the debate focuses on the analysis of the current situation and understanding the major issues involved in the development of the higher education in Canada and the US. The participants of the conversation focus on the discussion of the major issues and attempt to understand why so many American students prefer studying in Canada instead of the US. In this regard, they arrive to the conclusion that the major reason for American students moving to study to Canada is money because the costs of the higher education is almost twice as much as the costs of the higher education in Canada. In terms of the discussion, the participants discuss different aspects of the higher education in Canada and the US. At this point, it is possible to estimate that the discussion is represented from the functionalist perspective because the participants of the debate focus on the functioning of such institutions as universities and colleges and the education system at large.

They attempt to reveal the development of the higher education and society to understand the change in preferences of American students and explain the new trend to receive the higher education in Canada instead of the US. In such a way, the discussion focuses on the analysis of the functional development of the major social institutions and the society at large that helps the participants to understand general trends taking place in the society
