World War II essay paper

World War II is one of the most heroic battles for freedom and liberation. It is necessary to add that World War II was the war for world domination occurred between Germany, Italy and Japan and its allies on the one hand, and Britain, the USA, USSR, France and their allies ”“ on the other hand. This war is famous for its battles and every American remember today how hard it was to fight against enemies and defend own land and people. According to statistical data, “it killed more people, cost more money, damaged more property, affected more people, and caused more far-reaching changes in nearly every country than any other war in history. The number of people killed, wounded, or missing between September 1939 and September 1945 can never be calculated, but it is estimated that more than 55 million people perished.” (Black, 2003)

Thinking about the World War II it is necessary to say from the beginning that the war began with Germany’s attack on Poland on Sept. 1, 1939. The USA was not involved in the war from its beginning. Americans joining the Allies right after the Japanese attacked U.S. soil (Pearl Harbor). If to look retrospectively at the events of the first month of hostilities, the only plan of action, which made Germany’s chances of if not winning, then the ” probability of tying” Fuerer unleashed World War II, it would be immediate, in early September, delivering the main blow not against Poland, but against France. It this period the USA was not involved in the war yet, but situations had another character and that is why the day of attack on Pearl Harbor became crucial moment in the USA history.

Historical documents show us the next information about this fact: “The Imperial Japanese Navy made its attack on Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii, was aimed at the Pacific Fleet of the United States Navy and its defending Army Air Corps and Marine defensive squadrons. The U.S. public was angered by the attack and rallied in support of the Armed Forces and the US Government’s decision to enter World War II, initially against Imperial Japan.” (Gilbert, 2003) It is well-known fact that Pearl Harbor had strategic meaning for the country and it played a big role in the history of the war actions. If to be more exact in facts, we should mention that Pearl Harbor ”“ was Naval Station of the USA in the central Pacific Ocean near the island Oahu, where the main forces of the U.S. were situated. Japan outbroke the war in Pacific Ocean attacking the U.S. navy in Pearl Harbor. This fact was widely discussed in press and many historians have their opinions about this fact. According to Marston we see that “the attack severely damaged or destroyed twelve American warships, destroyed 188 aircraft, and killed 2,403 American servicemen and 68 civilians. However, the Pacific Fleet’s three aircraft carriers were not in port and so were undamaged, as were the base’s vital oil tank farms, submarine pens, and machine shops. Using these resources, the United States was able to rebound within a year.” (Marston, 2005)

This event had one unquestionable fact that this attack provoke America to take part in the war and made it war’s participant.

In my opinion, Japan made a great mistake attacking Pearl Harbor. I understand that somebody could disagree with my position, but I want to reflect it in this part of my paper. History knows very little amount of examples that would in more brightly way testified the limited military thinking. Moreover, a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor is one of these examples. The attack demonstrated a meanness, cunning, and at the same time, the incredible stupidity on the one hand and the unprecedented lack of foresight on the other hand. The only hope for Japan was in war that would have exhausted its enemy, America is, the majority of the population was against the war, although war wanted a head of state. If war becomes inevitable, obviously, as a first step to creating the conditions under which the exhaustion could begin, it should make the leader to declare war against the will of the majority of the people. Japan could do this while carefully avoiding an attack on any sort was to own up to America until the United States does not commit a direct act of war or not declare war on Japan.

Starting without a declaration of war against the United States, Japan, in one blow, solved all the difficulties faced by Roosevelt, and provided him the support of all Americans. An inexplicable stupidity of Japanese is that, making the Americans a laughingstock of the whole world, Japan has dealt a blow largely on their sense of dignity than to the Fleet. Like Adam and Eve, the Americans discovered that they were naked in the highest degree they suddenly opened their eyes and they suddenly realized that lived in a world of illusions. During the five months before the attack America has declared economic war on Japan, which, given Japan’s position, was inevitably lead to armed conflict. Nevertheless, Americans have been so shortsighted, that they missed the fact that Japan can attack the country.

Thus, we can say that the World War II has its own outcomes for America and exactly Japanese attack provoked the country to participate in the war so actively.
