a) Pick one Factorial ANOVA result and one t test result (either from Experiment 1 or 2). State the numerical outcome of each test.
For analysis, I have selected the factorial ANOVA result for Experiment 1:
 main effect for the type of test F(1,10)=481.55, p<0.001;
 main effect for the subject group F(1,10)=3.33, p>0.05;
 interaction between type of test and subject group: F(1,10)=5.12, p<0.05;
 effect of recognition on both groups (statistical significance of the difference): F(1,10)=0.06, p>0.05;
 effect of recall on both groups (statistical significance of the difference): F(1,10)=5.46, p<0.05.
The same experiment was used to select one t-test result:
 analysis of statistically significant difference in recognizing an item that was not recalled (similar for amnesic group and control group): t(10)=0.27, p>0.05.
b) Describe the independent and dependent variables involved and the type of test.buy essay
Regarding ANOVA test, it is a factorial ANOVA with two independent variables and one dependent variable. Independent variables are the type of test (recall or recognition) and subject group (amnesic group or control group). Dependent variable is the cognitive ability to identify familiar words (either recall, or recognize).
For t-test, the type of test used in this case is independent samples t-test (used to compare means of two different groups). Independent variable here is the subject group (amnesic group or control group), and the dependent variable is the percentage of words recognized, but not recalled by the subjects of study.
c) Discuss the outcome.
Interpretation of ANOVA test: main effect for the type of test appeared to be very significant (p<0.001), which means that the results of recall and recognition were strongly different for both groups. Main effect for the subject group appeared to be not significant (p>0.05), which means that there was no statistically significant difference in the responses of both groups (subject group factor does not have a significant effect). Finally, the interaction between subject group and type of test appeared to be statistically significant (p<0.05), which means that the reaction of every group to different types of tests was not the same, and certain groups performed better for certain type of test. The results of recognition were not significantly different for both groups (p>0.05), while the results of recall appeared to be significantly different (p<0.05). In general, ANOVA test has shown that while the test managed to equate recognition for both types of groups, the recall of amnesic group still was significantly weaker (0.06 average probability of recalling a word for amnesic group versus 0.22 average probability of recalling a word per control group). The result of t-test has proved that there was no statistically significant difference in recognizing the item which was not recalled for both groups (p<0.05), i.e. that subjects from both groups tended to recognize the non-recalled words in a similar manner.
