Buy essay on Blindness and insight

In the current essay I would like to consider compare “Oedipus the king” by Sophocles, “Othello the moor of Venice” by Shakespeare, and “A Doll house” by Henrik Ibsen in terms of the theme of blindness and insight. To begin with, it should be noted that all these plays are classical and listed to the world literature heritage. All of them are tragic and rise important aspects of human relationships.
I would like to start with “Oedipus the king” by Sophocles. In this tragedy writer sees the horror of the Greeks before a higher power, tragic impact on human life, extremely full expression receives a representation of a generic fault. Oedipus decides to outwit fate, just as once wanted to outwit fate of his parents – Lai and Jocasta. As a fact, it was predicted that Oedipus would kill his father married his mother when he grew up: “he’ll be revealed a brother and a father to his children in his house, husband and son to her who gave him birth; wife-sharer and the killer of his father”, as stated in Literature quotes. It should be noted that the tragedy of Oedipus and Jocasta is the tragedy of people who dared to resist the higher destiny and paid for it. Horror of the higher powers combined in this play with sympathy hero, paying for the crimes he committed unintentionally.

However, for the Greeks, the fate of the resistance itself is a crime. Offenses against the fate are accompanied by the disappearance of knowledge: Oedipus is deprived of a genuine understanding of the depth of his crimes, because it is very important in the final motif of the physical blindness: a hero blinds himself, but saw the light internally, like the other important character of the play – the blind seer Tiresias, who sees the truth of his inner eye: “Blind, though now he sees – and poor, though now he is rich ”“ he will use a stick to guide his steps into another land”, as described in Literature quotes.
After all, true knowledge of the above view, a mere mortal. Sophocles paints a heroic image of the person, not shying away from public exposure of himself, of the creative fair trial of himself – and this is his true greatness. At the end of the play, despite the triumph of rock, the Athenian audience with the hero and the chorus was supposed to experience the greatest degeneration, an unconditional moral satisfaction from the majestic image of struggle, suffering and the terrible troubles that took place with the main character, as stated in Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles.
The second play ”“ Shakespeare’s “Othello the moor of Venice” describes the life of a brilliant military leader of Venice ”“ the moor Othello. He met with Desdemona, the daughter of Brabantio. Struck by his tales of military campaigns, the girl falls in love with Othello and secretly marries him. Othello gets the assignment to take command of a remote garrison, and left there with his young wife. His assistant, Iago want to remove Othello and take his place. Iago convinces Othello that Desdemona is the mistress of Cassio, a young slave of Othello. To finally convince Othello of Desdemona infidelity, Iago puts a Desdemona’s handkerchief to Cassio. After Othello finds the proof of adultery, Iago advises Othello to kill Desdemona, while she sleep. By having endured the verdict wrong in advance, Othello accuses Desdemona. He does not listen to Desdemona, neither Emilia, Iago’s wife, who is trying to convince jealous that his wife is innocent, that she never dreamed of holding anything like that. While Desdemona was laying on the bed, the Moor began to tell her all that, he believes, he knows. But his wife denies everything. Othello strangles Desdemona, but does not want to prolong the agony, and kills her: “But words are words; I never yet did hear that the bruised heart was pierced through the ear”, as stated in Literature quotes. However, Iago’s wife tells the truth to Othello and he, unable to bear the news that he had killed with his own hands a loving and faithful wife and broke his own happiness, makes himself a death sentence: “An honorable murderer, if you will; for naught I did in hate, but all in honor”, as stated in Literature quotes. As a fact, this play is beautiful example of jealousy which blinds a man, not letting him think sensibly. That is why Shakespeare chose the main character and the moor – trying to highlight its southern temperament. Othello was unable to cope with his emotions and understand the situation, instead he allowed himself to be deceived, and being blinded by jealousy, he killed his wife, as described in Othello, the Moore of Venice.
