My personal development is very important for me since I am conscious of the fact that I have some drawbacks and weaknesses, which I have to eliminate to succeed in my personal and professional life. In this regard, I should focus on both short-term and long-term goals. In such a way, I can pay attention to both short-term and long-term goals and keep growing personally and professionally. On the other hand, the quality of planning of my short-term goals and, especially, long-term goals is very important for my personal and professional development. In this respect, I would focus on the improvement of my communication style through the achievement of both short-term and long-term goals that will ultimately lead to the improvement of the quality of my communication with other people and improvement of my skills and abilities to communicate with other people and to persuade them in my righteousness. Therefore, in a long-run perspective, I focus on the improvement of my communication style through the development of critical thinking that will enhance my persuading capability and improve the quality of my communication.
At the same time, along with long-term goals, I would distinguish a short-term personal goal which is to stop interrupting people. In fact, my problem is that often, in the course of communication, I grow nervous and so engaged that I interrupt my interlocutors and attempt to persuade them in my righteousness without letting them tell a word. Naturally, such communication style is ineffective and I would like to stop interrupting people. Steadily, the frequency of interruptions I make should drop and disappear in a long-run. While in a short-run perspective, within a month, I would like to decrease the frequency of interruption to one-two during a 5-10 minute conversation.
As for my long-term personal goals, one of such goals is to learn how to listen people I am communicating with. This means that I have to learn to listen to people in the course of the communication. I should record the quantity of time I speak and I listen to my interlocutor without interrupting him/her. To meet this goal as well as other, I would record my conversations during the day and after that I would analyze my conversation checking the time when I spoke, the quantitative of times I interrupted my interlocutor, and the quantity of time I listened to my interlocutor without interrupting him. Thus, I will measure the time I listened to interlocutor, analyze my behavior and communication style to find out why I failed or succeeded in the communication and more specifically in my listening skills.
Another long-term personal goal I would like to pursue is to develop an effective communication style. The effective communication style means the positive communication when I and my interlocutors are satisfied with the process of communication and its outcomes and when we reach goals of our communication. The effective communication implies the lack of conflicts, although admits disputes which are conducted within the productive framework. In other words, disputes may occur but they should not turn into conflicts. Instead, all disputes should be resolved through communication and parties involved in the communication should stay satisfied.
However, my main long-term personal goal is to develop effective persuading techniques to take advantage in disputes and to persuade people, if they disagree with me on the ground of critical thinking. In this regard, the development of my critical thinking is a crucial long-run goal for me because critical thinking will help me to achieve other long-run goals, including those which focus on the improvement of my communication skills. In fact, the development of critical thinking and persuading capability are inseparable and they can be measured through the analysis of disputes which I win in the course of communication, while critical reasoning is the tool with the help of which I am going to win disputes. In addition, persuading capability and critical thinking in communication imply my ability to make people taking my side or to undertake actions that I want them to undertake.
The long-term personal goal I would pay a particular attention to is the development of critical thinking and the ability to persuade people in disputes. In fact, winning disputes will mark the effectiveness of my persuading capability, while critical thinking will be the tool that I can use to win disputes and to persuade people effectively. In fact, this goal is very important in terms of my personal and professional development. In fact, the long-term goal I pursue is the development of my critical thinking that will increase the persuading power of my communication style that leads to the overall improvement of the effectiveness of my communication and my ability to persuade my interlocutors to take my side and to win disputes.
