Personal Values Development Paper

Preparing this paper I found an interesting phrase which I decided to use in the introduction to my work. One day Mark Victor Hansen said “Goals are a preview of future events and experiences in your life.” It is very right quotation and I think that our goals greatly influence on our world perception and create the better conditions for personal values development. Every person wants to be successful in chosen area and that’s why we try to develop our intellectual faculties and personal qualities. In this paper I want to examine my personal values and focus on developmental aspects. I also want to pay attention not only on my personal vales but also on ground rules and ethics facilities.

Let’s begin our discussion from the notion personal values development interpreting. What are personal values? My definition would be the next: I want define what I believe and what I am against. I know that my personal values development adds measurable and immeasurable value to my life. Many people who work on this problem say that we should practice our personal values and it will bring us to the true wealth. As for me personal values development is an integral part of self development that I can work on anytime and even anywhere.

Moreover I can work on it all free time and in different situations.  The process of personal values development should consists from several stages, because every our action should have definite structure that will help us to work more quickly and effectively. The first stage in personal values development is concludes in possibility to find few minutes and think about situation. Yes, you understand me quite right ”“ first of all it is necessary to define own wishes and goals. As usual people define themselves by the choices they make. If we look around us we can see that personal values development is such a huge thing today. People (and I’m not an exception to the rule) want to improve a lot of aspects of their lives. Among these aspects we can find family, business, relationships, spirituality, health, money, and many other spheres. All of us at different moments understand that we need somehow improve our life and all of us also seek improvement in chosen area. It was above mentioned that personal values development process should begin from the strategic thinking. When we find the goal of our trip to personal development then we looking for instruments which can help us achieve primary aims. HL Hunt proclaimed “Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work.”

According to www.pinetreeweb.com “Values are those things that really matter to each of us”¦ the ideas and beliefs we hold as special. Caring for others, for example, is a value; so is the freedom to express our opinions.

Most of us learned our values – or morals, if you prefer – at home, at church or synagogue, at school. But, where are our children learning their values? Maybe from parents, teachers and religious leaders, but society has changed. Too often young people today are most influenced by what they see and hear on television or on the street.” As you see different sources in different ways define personal values development but the main point is on fact that all depend from personal beliefs. Frankly speaking my personal value is that I sincere believe I should provide a quality of life suitable for my family. I also believe that spending the most time with my family is important not only for me but also for my relatives. How did I develop these types of personal values? I think that such value can be developed only in the family from early childhood. A family provides physical and emotional development of a person. Moreover, family plays a leading role in mental development of a child, and also influences on attitude of children, teenagers and youths toward studies and in a great deal determines its success. There is an educational level of a family in all stages of socialization, interests of its members influence on personal intellectual development, on that, what layers of culture person masters, on aspiring to continue education and on the level of self-education. The fundamental values orientations of a person are formed in a family, and also they determine definite lifestyle, spheres and level of pretensions, vital aspirations, plans and methods of their achievement.  Now through many years I understood how deeply my family influenced on my character and my personal values. I had a mother that worked at home and a father that worked at factory. My mother was a seamstress and that’s why she can work at home and look after me for whole day. I believe most and maybe better of my values were develop exactly from how I grew up at home and what I learned throughout life. There are two questions that disturb me for a long time.

Can I develop my values? Yes, of course, but it is not an easy process. How can I do it and improve my values? The answer will conclude in the words that only by living and learning I can develop better values and improve values that are now a part of my character. I know from the early childhood, my mother told it to me, that every person can develop more positive personal values and improve all mistakes. We can do it by experiencing what is wrong and what is right, how to act in serious situations and how someone handles those situations.

Developing ground rules in attitude to values and ethics are so important in our everyday life. Some people proclaim that rules limit new horizons of self-actualization and prevent our possibilities. I disagree with this statement and want to add that rules looks like a path into the right world, they show us how to develop and improve positive values more effectively and rules also can enhance the ethical development that can be learned. I believe that rules are important component of the process of personal values development and our family show us primary of them and teach us how to use them in our life. Returning to the ethics topic I can say that my ethics are to behave myself in a way which always sets an example, to respect the rights of others, their way of life and to treat others with respect and dignity. However, my father taught me to respect and love own country and in such a way my ethics are to observe the laws of our society and to teach my future children acceptable rules and ethical behaviors. I understand that my personal values maybe little bit different from other individual’s values, but it caused by my environment and of course will reflect my life experiences. We can’t separate personal values at home and personal values demonstration at the work. Our personal values are a part of our character and we should develop and improve them in such a way which allows them to be in balance and not disturb us but to exist in harmony in all situations. I want to mark out one detail that in the workplace personal values should be balanced with organizational values to ensure that integrity, the company’s mission and strategy is foremost.

Thus, taking into account all above mentioned I can conclude that personal values can be developed through whole life and only person can choose the right way for own development and personal values improving process. Many institutions helped shape my personal values but the first place my family occupies among them. I want to add that my work place greatly impact on my values but it is positive influence which can create new positive values in addition to those which were developed in my character from early childhood.  In the end of my paper want to quote the words of Tarthang Tulku who said “Every kind of work can be a pleasure. Even simple household tasks can be an opportunity to exercise and expand our caring, our effectiveness, and our responsiveness. As we respond with caring and vision to all work, we develop our capacity to respond fully to all of life. Every action generates the energy which can be shared with others. These qualities of caring and responsiveness are the greatest gift we can offer.”
