Essay on Barack Obama

History was made on November 4, 2008 when Barack Obama was voted into office as the first African American President of the United States. Prior to Barack Obama’s journey as senator of Illinois, there were several other African American candidates that ran for the presidency, but none of them had the success that Barack Obama did. During his 2008 election 69 million voters believed this election could somehow transform America through some kind of political, social, historical and cultural change. Right now our country is in a place where we really need a change for better employment, universal health care and even the right’s of minority voting.

The year of Barack Obama election was 2008. President Obama had inspired the highest African American voter turnout ever, not only did he inspire African Americans; he also inspired Whites, Hispanics, Asian and all people of this country.

“You know, they said this day would never come. They said our sights were set to high.        They said this country was too divided, too disillusioned to ever come together around a common purpose. But on this January night, at this defining moment in history, you have done what the cynics said we could not do. We are one people. And our time for change has come” (Obama, 2008).

For some time now, it’s been talked about the rights of minority voter. The voters rights are under attack in this country, due to some state legislators nationwide had passed a voter suppression law. With this kind of law set in place, it would make it harder for African Americans, the elderly, students and people who had disabilities to vote. “There are about thirty states that want voters to present government I.D and according to American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) about 11 percent of American citizens lack such I.D and would somehow have to navigate the administrative burdened to obtain it or just forgo the right to vote all together” (Jueseppi , 2012).

Times are continuing to change in the United States. The country has a high rate of unemployment. Both Democrat and Republican parties want to make a change in this eroding economy. Both parties want to put in place a law that would transform America by bringing work back to a time where the United State was the leaders in building things over China and the rest of the world. The America Jobs Act is a bill proposal that President Obama has put together to get passed by legislators so that the American people can get back to work and put money in their pockets.

President Obama signed this bill hoping that the American people could see the vision he had for them. This bill could bring about a million jobs to the working people, jobs for teachers, construction workers, more jobs for veterans, and more jobs for long term unemployed. With this bill being in place, there are many benefits to look forward to and many to dread. Some of the benefits to the Jobs Act are tax cuts to help American small business owner hire and grow, tax relief for every American worker and family and also investment in jobs and infrastructure to rebuild and modernize America. The drawbacks to the jobs act are that small businesses will first have to make a profit in order to expand, and then they can hire others to get that tax break. Also there will be a tax increase that would come about for the larger corporation, which will reduce their profits to where they can’t expand or hire. At the end of the day, whatever the opinion about the America Jobs Act, this country is still looking and waiting for a change.

Now, we have the health care issue that’s been a problem in the United Stated for quite some time, but looking into it, most Americans think that President Barack Obama’s health care law is here to stay. With this law in place, it would provide insurance coverage to 30 million people but would leave some people in a place where they couldn’t afford to pay their bills.

When President Obama and the Democratic leaders put this all together, they were looking for a way the people in this country would have a health insurance plan, they not only were trying to make sure low income and the elderly had it , but they also want all Americans. They thought by having a National health care insurance, it could reduce the national deficit and also save lives that would have died without health insurance.

In conclusion President Barack Obama was the first African American voted to the office of President of the United States. People counted on him, believed in, and hoped that he could make a change in this country; be it political, social, historical or cultural change. With President Obama extraordinary achievement he was the one that inspired me to vote where in the past, I never did. With the voter suppression law in place it mainly takes away the American people rights leaving them trying to fight for their constitutional right. Not has he been fighting for the American Job Act to be successful, he wants to see this great country get back on its feet as being the leading power house around the world. Now with the health care law, it will help provide some of the American people a better way to live a healthier life. President Obama hasn’t done everything right, but he has done what he can do to help this country grow and be a better place.
