In your own opinion, describe the concept of professionalism?

Professionalism is a fundamental concept which defines the effectiveness of a specialist working in any organization. Today, professionalism has become more important than it has ever been before because the technological progress and complexity of tasks professionals have to perform increase the demand for well-qualified labor force. However, professionalism is not only a set of professional skills and abilities but it is also the responsibility for outcomes of one’s work not only in material but also ethical terms.

In actuality, the concept of professionalism should be viewed in two domains: the domain of professional skills and abilities and the domain of professional ethics. It proves beyond a doubt that professionalism is a set of professional skills and abilities that a specialist has developed in the course of his or her professional development. The more proficient a professional is in his or her professional skills and abilities the better professional he or she is. For instance, in health care services and pharmaceutical industry, professionals need to have extensive knowledge of medicine, chemistry, biology and other sciences as well as professional skills related to health care services and pharmacology to be well-qualified professionals.

On the other hand, professionalism implies the existence of certain professional ethics. Professional ethics is a set of moral and ethical norms each specialist has to follow and observe in the course of his or her work to be truly professional. The latter is particularly important in health care services, where professional ethics is inseparable from the work of health care professionals.

Thus, in conclusion, it should be said that professionalism is an integral unity of professional skills and abilities, on the one hand, and professional ethics, on the other.
