Inductive Argument in Cultural Counter Balancing

The contemporary culture is characterized by the presence of very controversial movements. Nevertheless, it is still possible to speak about the existing of such concept as Western culture, or Western lifestyle. In such a situation, it is possible to presuppose that there exists some cultural counter balancing which permits the culture to develop steadily regardless numerous internal contradictions.

In this respect, it is possible to refer to the past. For instance, at the beginning of the 20th century, art was characterized by the rapid development of modernist movement which distanced art from the mass audience to the extent that specialists speak about the possibility of the existence of art for the art sake (Russell 2003). Naturally, in such a situation, traditional culture was challenged by the modern art movements but still there cultural development remained stable, while the modern art was just an alternative view on art and culture that counter balanced traditional values and norms. Consequently, this example may be viewed as a proof of the existence of some cultural counter balancing.

Even nowadays, the modern society is culturally diverse. For instance, in the US, as well as many other countries of the world, people having different socio-cultural background live next to each other and form one and the same society (Robbins 1999). In general, it is possible to speak about a traditional American culture, but, at the same time, American society is culturally diverse. This is why it is possible to estimate that different cultures, being often absolutely opposite to each other, such as the culture of Jewish and Arab-American communities in the US, are counter balancing each other

Thus, the cultural diversity and presence of different cultural movements in one and the same culture may be viewed as a proof of the existence of cultural counter balancing.
