Matthew Maranz, “Guns ‘Я’ Us”

Matthew Maranz’s article depicts the process of the gun’s selection. At first glance, the author just describes his experience of selecting and buying arms. However, it is obvious from the ironic, if not to say sarcastic, tone of his article that Maranz wants to show that, in spite of the existing bureaucracy, the firearm is accessible to a large number of people and the existing system of control over the sales of firearms is imperfect. The author depicts in details all his efforts to buy the desirable firearm and how much time he spent on it. He also points out that the bureaucracy was a serious challenge to him, but, at the same time, he argues that the bureaucratic challenges can be easily surmounted, if an individual does need some deadly weapon.
