Overseas Study Essay

The idea of going overseas for university study is an exciting prospect for many people. I know people who care of their personal prospects nowadays and seriously think about their future career prospects overseas. There are two straight opposite positions that show us advantages and disadvantages of going overseas for university study. I want to accentuate your attention on advantages of overseas study because it is probably better to receive education abroad and to change own world outlook in such way. At the same time I agree with the statement that for some people it is probably better to stay home because of the difficulties a student inevitably encounters living and studying in foreign country and different culture.

Let’s discuss advantages of overseas study with more details. Every day more and more modern people have the idea of going overseas university study. Moreover, this purpose is fully justified. In fact, education received abroad – it is not only a kind of prestige status but it is also new emotions and meetings. I want to add that such kind of overseas education gives not only invaluable experience but also freedom of choice abroad:

1. Possibility to work and to perfect character in any international sphere. (Fischer, 2009)

2. Allows to get prestige work at once after completion of studies and, accordingly, high earnings. (COPYRIGHT 2003 Project Innovation (Alabama). 3. It is attractive for the many companies and allows on equal grounds to settle down on work with local competitors and overseas competitors. (http://www.studyabroadfoundation.org/)

4. It is daily language practice and living socializing with the native speakers of a language. (Cressey, 2004)

Except for the above-stated advantages, studying overseas allows to understand better the European culture, lead interesting useful acquaintances and extend the stock of words.

Priceless experience of intercourse, knowledge of culture and language – are those bricks which will help in further life to build a good career, business intercourse and to determine further aims. For instance, in relate to English language we can conclude that exactly today English can be boldly named the international language of intercourse, therefore studying in England (I mean in Great Britain), in the USA, in Canada or other English speaking countries gives considerable advantages. Those students, who study in Germany or in France, can not only learn the German or French language but also to become closer to the culture of these countries, to understand people better and look inside traditions and cultural legacy.

Thus taking into account all above mentioned I can conclude that in life of every person there are only a few decisions, which can change motion of all life, invert picture of scopes of the world, to extend horizons of possibilities. One of these decisions is where, how and what to study. At first we must choose school or university to our own, and then, on the next stage of the life – for our children. It is always stirring and responsible step. I think that the idea of going overseas for university study will purchase not only priceless knowledge but also will give bright and unforgettable impressions for whole life. As a conclusion I want to add that “you can develop real competitive advantages over students who never venture abroad to study, including

ü    Improved foreign language skills.

ü    A more cosmopolitan, international perspective.

ü    Greater tolerance for other opinions.

ü    Ability to think more originally and to see more than one perspective on an issue.

ü    Greater self-reliance and self-confidence.

ü    More comfort with complex situations, the ability to better cope with ambiguous information, and greater flexibility. “ (Ying, College Student Journal, 2003)
