The Life Before and Now

The modern world is different from what it used to be a hundred years ago. Moreover, even twenty or thirty years ago people and their life was different compared to the modern life. On the one hand, the mankind has made unparalleled progress in its technological development, but, on the other hand, what the modern society has lost certain naivety and simplicity which people had in the past. The development of modern technologies improved the life of people but it seems as if they forget that there is the life outside large cities, where there is not high technologies, but the real life and wild nature. Therefore, things are different and they will not be the same as they used to be before.

On looking back into the past, it seems as if the life was better and easier in the past, whereas now it seems to be much more complicated. In this respect, I could refer to my personal experience. For instance, before, I did not really care about my professional career, my education and my professional development. I simply enjoyed the life and I did not care what I was going to do next day. I spent good time with my friends and relatives and, now, I think of that time as the best part in my life. On the other hand, I still expect that my greatest accomplishments are ahead. Nevertheless, now my life is more complicated because I have moved abroad, where I have to adapt to a new culture, new people, and I do not have the opportunity to spend as much time with my friends and relatives as I used to do before.

However, this is just a routine example of the striking difference between the life before and now. When I think about the changes that have taken place not only in my life, but in the life of people at large within the last several decades, I feel being amazed and shocked. Needless to say, the modern world has changed substantially. Today, people can communicate with each other being located in different parts of the world. Due to the development of information technologies and telecommunications, they stay connected and they can communicate with each other regardless of their physical location. Frankly speaking, I highly appreciate this opportunity because, due to the development of these technologies, I still can communicate with my friends and relatives who are far away now. Obviously, it would be much more difficult for me to communicate with them just twenty or thirty years ago because technologies were underdeveloped compared to modern information technologies and telecommunications. Naturally, I could make phone calls to my home, but before it was not as simple as it is now and, what is more, I would likely be limited in the time I spent on communication with my friends and relatives and the quality of communication was worse substantially compared to modern telecommunications. Moreover, using modern information technologies and telecommunications I can contact my friends or relatives in any part of the world.

However, such technological progress has changed our life consistently. Now, we spend a lot of time in the virtual world or simply watching TV. What is more, we leave cities occasionally and, as a rule, people do it only when they have vacations and they can travel somewhere faraway from large cities. In this regard, I recall those days, when I was not enclosed in the stone jungles of the large city. Instead, I had an opportunity to spend great time on a beach having fun with my friend or I recall my trips to a sparsely populated island where I, along with my father and uncle, hunted. Frankly speaking, it was great to be closer to wild nature and feel being a part of nature. Unfortunately, now I can a few opportunities to get closer to nature as I did before. I do feel pity that the overwhelming majority of people do not have such opportunities as well because the life today is different than it used to be before. People spend their life in city jungles, while before they were definitely closer to nature.

Thus, consistent changes that occur in our life do not always have positive effects. Now, our life is better because it is more comfortable but, as the matter of fact, we have lost in city jungles in the pursuit of professional success, prosperity and comfort. We do not think about simple things and pleasures as we did before and we are totally separated from nature, whereas before we were much closer to nature.
