In actuality, multidimensional treatment programs are very popular because they use diverse approaches to treatment and such a combination of different approaches to treatment helps adolescents with anorexia nervosa to recover from their eating disorder (Gremillion, 2003). In fact, the multidimensional treatment programs involve parents of adolescents with anorxia nervosa. In addition, these programs offer educational programs that help children with anorexia nervosa to prevent the development of their health problems and their aggravation. Moreover, multidimensional treatment may involve the assistance of peers that may very helpful because they have a considerable impact on adolescents. therapists can use other approaches to the treatment of anorexia nervosa that may be helpful for adolescents. In fact, the main point is to find an effective approach to the treatment of adolescents because each adolescent has unique traits of character, psychological characteristics and perception of their body image. Hence, they need individual approach to their treatment.
Finally, O’Connor and Van Esterick (2008) stand on the ground of using socio-cultural approach to the treatment of anorexia nervosa as the researchers believe that anorexia nervosa is the result of the impact of the cultural environment of adolescents. In this respect, the impact of mass media is particularly significant. What is meant here is the fact that adolescents are vulnerable to the impact of the dominant culture and mass media. As a result, they may develop anorexia nervosa under the impact of body image created by mass media and mainstream culture but this image may have nothing in common with the real life. Therefore, the minimization of the cultural impact of the environment on negative behavioral patterns of adolescents is very important in the treatment of anorexia nervosa.
Thus, taking into account all above mentioned, it is important to place emphasis on the fact that anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder that has a destructive impact on the health of adolescents. In this regard, the effective treatment of anorexia nervosa is crucial for adolescents because they need the assistance of therapists. However, therapists may use different approaches to the treatment of adolescents with anorexia nervosa. In this regard, it is possible to use the family therapy as the milestone of the treatment of anorexia nervosa. Alternatively it is possible to use other methods of treatment such as multidimensional approach. In addition, it is necesasary to develop educational programs and healthy culture in adolescents to prevent and cure anorexia nervosa.
